WBA Super Champion Felix Sturm to defend his title against Giovanni Lorenzo in Cologne

After a one-year lay-off WBA middleweight super champion Felix Sturm returns to the ring on September 4th to defend his title against Giovanni Lorenzo from the Dominican Republic at Cologne's Lanxess Arena in Germany. It will be Sturm's first fight since splitting up with former promoter Universum. SAT.1 will broadcast the show live in Germany and as online live stream on ran.de.

ARENA Sports-Promotion and promoter Ahmet Öner will present some of their young and hungry German prospects on the undercard. IBF intercontinental middleweight champion Benjamin Simon (18-1, 17 kos) steps into the ring against durable Colombian Juan Camilo Novoa. "I have been working hard for this chance", says Simon. "I want to prove that I am worthy international champion and ready for a shot at a world title."

"Benjamin has improved a lot in the last year" adds promoter and manager Robert Rolle. "We have been working hard to get a title shot. I hope that one of the world champions will accept 'IronBen' as challenger. Maybe we even get a chance to face Sturm in his next fight."

Besides Simon Ahmer Öner will present cruiserweight Patrick Dobroschi and super middleweight Mike Keta at the show in Cologne. In another super middleweight clash Ronny Slomke and Dennis Ronert face off in an all German encounter.

"We are looking for young and hungry German fighters who have championship potential", says promoter Ahmet Öner. "I am convinced that some of the guys we will send into the ring on September 4th got what it takes to become main event fighters one day."

Gamboa to face Salido in WBA / IBF unification bout

On September 11th ARENA's Cuban superstar Yuriorkis Gamboa returns to the ring when the reigning WBA featherweight champion faces IBF titlist Orlando Salido in a unification bout at the Palms Hotel in Las Vegas featured on HBO .

"This is my next step on the way to become undisputed champion of the world", says Gamboa. "It's my goal to unify all world titles to prove that I am the best featherweight boxer today. Of course, I will not underestimate Salido. I know that it is not easy to become champion of the world. Still I know that I will beat him and go on to collect some more belts."

The title unification will be promoted by Top Rank in association with ARENA Sports-Promotion. Gamboa won the WBA championship in April 2009 against Jose "Cheo" Rojas and has made three succesful defenses so far. If "El Ciclon" gets passed Salido he might face Puerto Rican superstar Juan Manuel Lopez in a Pay-Per-View mega-fight next year.
