Gamboa simply sensational

Yuriorkis Gamboa destroys Rogers Mtagwa

"El Ciclon" blows away Rogers Mtagwa in two rounds

ARENA's biggest star keeps on shining brightly! Featherweight phenomenon Yuriorkis Gamboa defended his WBA championship succesfully by knocking out African tough guy Rogers Mtagwa at New York's world famous Madison Square Garden.

"El Ciclon" floored Mtagwa for the first time in round one. After two more knock-downs in  the second referee Steve Smoger waved off the uneven match. The challenger from Tanzania who had unbeaten champion Juan Manuel Lopez close to a knockout loss at the Garden in October couldn't handle Gamboa's speed and power from the opening bell on.

"Gamboa is simply sensational", said promoter Ahmet Öner after the fight. "He is on the best way to become the best boxer in the world. He fights in a league of his own. His next bout will be in Germany on March 27th."

At Hamburg's Sporthalle Gamboa will be featured live on ARENA's first big show with new major TV partner SAT.1.

Lopez dethrones WBO featherweight champion Steven Luevano

While Gamboa travels overseas Puerto Rico's Juan Manuel Lopez may enjoy a little vacation after winning a world title in a second weight division. For his fight against WBO featherweight champion Steven Luevano JuanMa stepped up in weight and class to dominate and finally knock out Luevano in seven rounds.

After both Gamboa and Lopez have won their fights and are now co-title holders in the featherweight division a showdown between the two fastest rising stars in boxing becomes more and more likely. "Those two are definitely on collision course", says Ahmet Öner. While Top Rank's Bob Arum adds, "We are obliged to turn this fight into the biggest featherweight clash of all times. Maybe we give Gamboa and Lopez more time to dry out the division before they will eventually collide in a mega-fight."
